FAQ: Do you have a backup plan if you are ill?

As you look for the perfect photographer, you will likely found a long list of “must ask” questions while chatting with who you are considering. To make it easier for you, I have started this series of blog posts to answer all of those frequently asked questions.

One of the most important questions to ask your photographer(s) is if they have a backup plan if something prevents them from photographing your wedding. None of us would like to imagine that happening, but being prepared is important!

There are several ways that I have created a “fail-safe” for the unlikely event that I am not feeling 100% or am unable to capture a wedding.

First off, I have ensured that my husband, Alan, knows what events I have booked as well as all of the details for each of them. In fact, he photographed my very first wedding with me and has been involved, in some way, with my business since then. When I was pregnant with our daughter, he photographed events with me as I got closer to the due date and was ready to step in if needed. His photography style is the same as mine.

In the unlikely event that I am incapacitated in any way, my loved ones have a list of photographers who I know well and trust to help my couples ensure that their weddings are professionally captured. Should the need arise, I know that my clients will be taken care of.

All that being said, since I photographed my first wedding in 2008, I have not (knock on wood) had to rely on my backup plan. Let’s hope that trend continues for many years to come!
