It took two years, but I had a plan.

Since my first year in business, I have had a backup plan should I ever be in a tough spot and not able to photograph a wedding. It was never a plan that I wanted to need. When the pandemic hit in March of 2020, it was always in my head as we were all anxious about testing positive. It was an added layer of stress on top of all of the other aspects of trying to maintain my business. When 2022 started, it seemed like maybe I had dodged it, which I am sure was a common mindset for many. As someone who in vaccinated and boosted, I breathed a sigh of relief.

Unfortunately, COVID had other plans for me. With less than two weeks to go before my first wedding of 2022 (the lovely Mick & Alaina!), I tested positive. And my heart broke. Why now? Why not any time in the past many months since I wrapped up my 2021 season? It really took the wind out of my sails and took a toll on my emotional health. Having to put my backup plan into action for the first time in 14 years absolutely crushed me. But I was so glad that I had a plan and was able to have another awesome photographer step in for me to ensure that Alaina & Mick had an awesome photographer with them and I could keep them healthy. (I will be share their wedding very soon!)

I am now over a month out from testing positive and am very thankful that I was able to physically recover as well as I did. I could have kept my woes to myself. However, I felt the need to share more publicly to encourage photographers to have a plan for when the worst case scenario happens. And, if you are planning a wedding, I encourage you to ask your photographer for their plan. If you should ever need it, having a plan laid out already will help.
